Tier upgrade and retention
A Privilege Club member gets upgraded from their base tier (Burgundy) to higher tiers based on the number of Qpoints they earn within 12 months. Here is the number of Qpoints required within 12 months to move higher to the next tier.
| Tier | Qpoints needed in 12 months |
| Burgundy to Silver | 150 |
| Silver to Gold | 300 |
| Gold to Platinum | 600 |
For a tier upgrade, a member must earn at least 20% of the Qpoints within the last 12 months on flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways or must have taken at least 4 flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways during that same 12-month period.
The number of Qpoints that a member needs within 12 and 24 months for retaining the tier is as follows:
| Tier | Qpoints required within 12 months | Qpoints required within 24 months |
| Silver | 135 | 270 |
| Gold | 270 | 540 |
| Platinum | 540 | 1080 |
To keep their current tier, a member must collect the required number of Qpoints before the tier renewal date. In addition, at least 20% of those Qpoints must have been earned on flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways. Alternatively, a member can qualify by completing at least four flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways within the last 12 months, or at least eight flights marketed and operated by Qatar Airways within the last 24 months.
A member can earn Qpoints for taking Qatar Airways flights and flights on oneworld partner airlines. Other ways to earn Qpoints include shopping and dining at Qatar Duty Free, booking a vacation package with Qatar Airways Holidays, and spending with the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Credit Card from Doha Bank, among others.
A member can purchase Qpoints from the Qatar Airways website by paying USD 25 for each Qpoint. The purchased Qpoints can be used to upgrade to the next tier or retain the current tier.
Earning Avios with Qatar Airways
In the earlier section, we understood the various membership tiers of the Privilege Club and their benefits. Now, let us explore how a member can earn Avios, the Privilege Club reward currency, which can be used for booking award flights and other purposes.
Avios is the reward currency a Privilege Club member earns when they or their nominated family members travel with Qatar Airways, oneworld airlines, or Qatar Airways airline partners. A member can also earn Avios with several other global partners.
Whenever a Privilege Club member takes a Qatar Airways flight, they earn Avios as per the chart below.
The formula used to calculate the Avios is as follows:
Avios collected on a flight or base Avios = Distance flown X Percentage Avios collected applicable to the booking class.
Let us take an example to understand the calculation of Avios. Suppose a Privilege Club Burgundy Tier member takes a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Mumbai. The distance flown in this case is 1,424 Miles. As mentioned in the table above, based on the distance flown and the percentage of Avios collected applicable to the booking class, the calculation will be done as follows.
| Booking class | % Avios collected | Distance flown | Number of Avios |
| W | 25% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 25% = 356 |
| G | 50% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 50% = 712 |
| O, T, Q, N | 50% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 50% = 712 |
| S, V, L, M, K | 75% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 75% = 1068 |
| H, B, Y | 100% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 100% = 1424 |
| P | 75% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 75% = 1068 |
| R | 125% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 125% = 1780 |
| I, D | 175% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 175% = 2492 |
| C, J | 200% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 200% = 2848 |
| F, A | 300% | 1,424 Miles | 1424 X 300% = 4272 |
The above calculations are for a Burgundy tier member (base tier). In case of Silver, Gold, and Platinum tier members, the tier bonus will be added to arrive at the final Avios earned.
Continuing with the above example, the calculation of the Avios earned for various tiers will be as follows.
For a Burgundy tier member travelling in booking class W, we have already calculated the Avios earned as 356. Now, let us apply the tier bonus for the remaining three tiers and calculate the Avios earning.
| Tier | Tier bonus % | Bonus Avios | Base Avios | Total Avios (Bonus + Base) |
| Silver | 25% | 25% of 1424 Miles = 356 | 356 | 712 |
| Gold | 75% | 75% of 1424 Miles = 1068 | 356 | 1424 |
| Platinum | 100% | 100% of 1424 Miles = 1424 | 356 | 1780 |
